Textbook of Fitness

The Textbook of Fitness will teach you the basic principles of human performance nutrition, including the basics of muscle metabolism and fuel utilization before, during and after exercise. Through the application of nutrition science principles, you will learn how to optimize all forms of exercise.

In addition, there will be specific nutrition information relevant to specific forms of exercise. Aerobic exercise will be examined for cyclists, swimmers, runners and triathletes to optimize endurance. Resistance exercise principles will be geared to those interested in weightlifting and bodybuilding. The nutritional concerns of athletes playing football and other team sports, which combine issues around aerobic and strength training, sometimes called crossover training, will be considered in a separate chapter. Finally, a chapter will consider the best science available for maintaining performance in the weekend athlete and the aging athlete.
